Storekoret - The Choir of the University of Southern Denmark
The Choir
The Choir of the University of Southern Denmark, founded in 1964, is a well-established mixed voice amateur choir with around 65 members, most (but not all) of whom are connected with the university either as students or professors. As such, we have members of all ages from 18 to 80, from all parts of the city and surrounding areas.
The university choir's history goes back to the 1950s and is rooted in the musical life on Funen. In 1964, it became the official choir for the St Knud Gymnasium, and from 1984 onwards it has been the choir of Odense University (now University of Southern Denmark).
Repertoire
We give two to four concerts a year. Our repertoire consists mainly of a wide range of classical choral music, from songs to larger works, performed a cappella or accompanied by an orchestra or an organ. In recent years, we have performed both Mozart’s and Fauré’s Requiems and variuos masses by Beethoven, Schubert and Haydn, as well as many smaller and more secular works.
Travels
Besides our various concerts all around the country and performing at special occasions at the univerity, we regularly travel abroad on concert tours. Among our previous destinations are Riga, Latvia; Trondheim, Norway; Edinburgh, Scotland; Worms, Germany; and Florence, Italy where we have performed a broad selection of Nordic and European choral music.
Social activities
We are always very keen to get together socially - with at least three parties a year and a tradition of having a drink together after every rehearsal, it's fairly easy to get to know the other members of the choir.
